The DSASO has several projects that are always being worked on.  The following will give you an idea of some of the projects we are currently involved with:

Our largest project we currently are running is our Pilot– Reading Program. The program started in February, 2003 and has served 25 families with assistance in reading instruction.

The most recent event we have gotten up and running is the Upstarts Program. Upstarts is a support group for parents of children with Down syndrome under the age of 12. This group meets every other month and will be providing guest speakers in the upcoming meetings.

The DSASO also works with the hospitals to support the new families being brought into the area by providing a new parent packet which gives the new parents just the right amount of information to get them started. We are currently working on coordinating with the birthing centers to educate them on the need to present information that your child may have special needs in a positive and informative manner.

The DSASO holds monthly social events, with the largest event being the Buddy Walk which is held in the fall.

The DSASO produces a Quarterly Newsletter to provide you with updated information and resources about Down syndrome.

The DSASO provides outreach and support to families in Southern Oregon and Northern California as well as other local non-profit organizations. This helps to provide many other outlets to serve all individuals with disabilities.
