"No words can describe the feeling you have when you hear your child read his first letter, his first word, his first sentence and his first book. Additionally, the DSASO reading program has improved my son's speech and his ability to stay focused"

"I have seen first hand how important reading is to my daughter, Sandra. It has changed her life! She reads everything around that she sees, the sides of trucks, TV Guide, fortune cookies, and notes. The ability to read notes has tremendously improved her safety and well-being and should not be taken lightly as this is a giant step. Anything that improves safety is priceless! Further, to be able to communicate lessens the isolation from the rest of the world and allows inclusion. What could be more important that that?"

Merleen Mann, Parent of Sandra, age 28

T_05_CAROL

"I want to thank Joyce and the DSASO board for allowing my daughter Carol and others in the DSASO reading program to express what is on the inside of each individual and share their thoughts with the world. My daughter Carol started the reading program being able to speak 1 and 2 words at a time. She called me on the phone only 2 or 3 times in her life. Several weeks ago, I had a most unusual and delightful experience. Carol called me on the telephone and told me how she misses me and after that began to talk about the different things that were going on in her life. We had a two way conversation! Her words were clear and her sentences were complete. We talked for about 5 minutes or more, and when she hung up I had tears of joy in my eyes. To be able to have this conversation with my daughter was a gift of great value."

Arlene Morgan, Parent of Carol, age 30
